Welcome to the Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams Online Seva Portal.
TTD is Happy to Provide Better Service to the Devotees with this Web Based Interface. The ancient and sacred temple of Sri Venkateswara is located on the seventh peak, Venkatachala (Venkata Hill) of the Tirupati Hill, and lies on the southern banks of Sri Swami Pushkarini. It is by the Lord's presidency over Venkatachala, that He has received the appellation, Venkateswara (Lord of the Venkata Hill). He is also called the Lord of the Seven Hills.
The Temple of Sri Venkateswara has acquired unique sanctity in Indian religious lore. The Sastras, Puranas, Sthala Mahatyams and Alwar hymns unequivocally declare that, in the Kali Yuga, one can attain mukti, only by worshipping Venkata Nayaka or Sri Venkateswara.
The benefits acquired by a piligrimage to Venkatachala are mentioned in the Rig Veda and Asthadasa Puranas. In these epics, Sri Venkateswara is described as the great bestower of boons. There are several legends associated with the manifestation of the Lord at Tirumala.
The Temple has its origins in Vaishnavism, an ancient sect which advocates the principles of equality and love, and prohibits animal sacrifice.
The sanctum sanctorum which houses the awe-inspiring idol of the Lord of the Seven Hills is situated in the main temple complex of Tirumala.

Major attractions of Andhra Pradesh

Forts and Monuments of Andhra Pradesh

Charminar :

A splendid piece of architecture standing in the heart of the city built by Quli Qutub Shah, in 1591. This magnificent monument is the unique symbol of Hyderabad . Charminar is often called as "The Arc de triomphe of the East". It is considered as the legendary masterpiece of Qutub Shahi's. This beautiful structure derives its name from four intricately carved minarets, The four graceful minarets literally meaning 'Four Minars', soar to a height of 48.7m each, above the ground. It is located amidst the colourful shops of Lad Bazaar with its glittering traditional bangles in the old city. Enormous in its size, this imposing monument exudes a charm that is more than 400 years old.
The Qutub Shahi Reign :

The history of Hyderabad begins with the establishment of the Qutub Shahi dynasty. Owing to the inadequacy of water and frequent epidemics of plague and cholera Quli Qutub Shah established the new city with the Charminar at its centre with four great roads fanning out in four cardinal directions. The plan is a square, each side 20m long, while the four arches are 11m wide and rise 20m from the plinth. The four-storeyed minarets rise 20m from the roof of the massive monument and measure 24m from the plinth. The western section of the roof contains a mosque, ranking among the finest the gifted Qutub Shahi artisans ever built. There are 45 prayer spaces with a large open space in front to accommodate more for Friday prayers. To the east of this space is a lovely verandah with a large open arch in the centre, flanked by smaller ones on both sides.

A Representation Of Indo-Sarcenic Tradition :

It was built with granite and lime-mortar. It is a blend of 'Cazia' and Islamic style of architecture. The intertwined arches and domes are examples of typical Islamic style of the architecture. The graceful floral motif atop the Charminar is enchanting. The Charminar depicts the Indo-Saracenic tradition - a symbiosis of the Hindu and the Muslim traditions, which has woven the magic of a rich Deccan culture. The Charminar looks spectacular particularly in the nights when it is illuminated. It offers an excellent panoramic view of the city and Golconda Fort in Andhra Pradesh, which makes the mind go back into time and recapitulates the past glory of Hyderabad during the Qutub Shahi times. Charminar has become an inseparable part of the history of Hyderabad.

How to get there ?

Air - Hyderabad being the capital city is well connected by air and has got its own airport.

Rail - Hyderabad has got its own railhead, which connects it to all the major cities within the state as well as in the country.

Road - Tourists can take city buses from any point of the city. Rickshaw's and Taxi's are the other modes of Transport to get to Charminar.

Golconda Fort, Andhra Pradesh

About Golconda Fort :

Golconda fort of Andhra pradesh, is a majestic monument, which lies on the western outskirts of Hyderabad city. It speaks of a great cultural heritage of 400 years and is regarded as a place worth visiting. Built by Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah in 1525, it stands as the epitome of Nawabi culture and grandeur.

A Well Planned Architecture :

The magnificent architecture of the Golconda fort is manifest in its acoustic system, the structural grandeur of the palaces and ingenious water supply system. The fort was famous for its diamond trade and the 'Kohinoor' diamond is said to have come from here. One is perplexed to see the meticulous details of the architecture and the fading gardens, which were once upon a time replete with sprawling lawns and playing fountains.
Golconda is built on a granite hill 120m high, and is surrounded by crenulated ramparts constructed of large masonry blocks weighing several tonnes. The design of the ventilation reveals the brilliant planning of the architects; they are designed to let in a flow of fresh cool breeze, which is a respite from the heat of summer.
The massive gates are studded with large pointed iron spikes to prevent elephants from battering them down. The outer wall surrounding the entire township of Golconda, is about 11-km long, and is strongly fortified. In its heyday, the 10-km long road from Golconda to outer Hyderabad was a fabulous market selling jewellery, diamonds, pearls and other gems, which were famous all over the world.
History Of Golconda :

Before the city of Hyderabad was founded the Deccan was ruled from Golconda fort. Founded originally by the Kakatiya's in the 13th century the existing structure was expanded by the Qutub Shahi kings into a massive fort with granite walls and ramparts extending some 5-km in circumference. The first three Qutub Shahi kings rebuilt Golconda, over a span of 62 years. Shepherd's Hill" or "Golla Konda", as it was popularly known in Telugu, has an interesting story behind it. One fine day, on the rocky hill called 'Mangalavaram', a shepherd boy came across an idol. This was conveyed to the Kakatiya king, who was ruling at that time. The king got a mud fort constructed around the holy spot. Over a period of time this lowly construction was expanded by the Qutub Shahi kings into a massive fort of granite, which has been a silent witness to many historic events.
Attractions Within The Fort :

One of the most remarkable features of Golconda is its system of acoustics- a hand clap at a certain point below the dome at the entrance reverberates and can be heard clearly at the 'Bala Hissar', the highest point almost a kilometre away, palaces, factories, water supply system and the famous 'Rahban' cannon, that was used during the last seize of Golconda by Aurangazeb, to whom the fort ultimately fell.
There is also supposed to be secret underground tunnel leading from the 'Durbar Hall' to one of the palaces at the foot of the hill. The tombs of the Qutub Shahi kings, built with Islamic architecture lie about 1-km north of the outer wall of Golconda. These graceful structures are surrounded by landscaped gardens, and a number of them have beautifully carved stonework. Not be missed is the Sound and Light show conducted by Andhra Pradesh Tourism.
Outside the Golconda Fort are two separate pavilions built on a rocky eminence - the 'Taramathi Gana Mandir' and the 'Premathi Nritya Mandir' from where the legendary sisters 'Taramathi' and 'Premamathi' resided. They gave their performance on a circular dais atop a two-storied structure, the 'Kala Mandir', which was visible from the king's durbar (king's court) on top of the Golconda Fort.

The Sound and Light Show :

A new attraction at the fort is a sound and light show that brings the legend of Golconda to life. With a spectacular interplay of audio and visual effects, the story of Golconda unfolds over centuries of splendour. The show livens up the glorious past and it is an experience worth watching. The show is presented in English, Hindi and Telugu.

Mecca Masjid, Andhra Pradesh

About Mecca Masjid, Andhra Pradesh :

Mecca Masjid is one of the largest mosques in India accommodating upto 10,000 worshippers. This is the biggest mosque in Hyderabad and lies within hundred yards to the southwest of Charminar. The mosque got its name from the belief that the bricks inserted over the central arch were baked out of clay brought from Mecca, and also from the grand mosque at Mecca on which it is patterned. The constructions of this mosque was started by Sultan Muhammad Qutub Shah, the work continued during the reign of Abdullah Qutub Shah and Abul Hassan Tana Shah and was completed in 1694 by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The hall measures 67m by 54m and is 23m in height. Fifteen arches, five on each of the three sides, support the roof. The western side is blocked by a high wall to provide the 'mehrab'.
A room in the courtyard is believed to house the relic of the Prophet Mohammad. At each end are two huge octagonal columns made out of a single piece of granite each topped by an arched gallery that is crowned by a dome. The colonnades and door arches have inscriptions from the Quran. Now it has been wire meshed to stop birds nesting in the ceiling and liming the floor. It took about 8000 Masons and laborers and 77 years to complete.
How to get there ?

Air - Hyderabad being the capital city is well connected by air from all the important cities of the country.

Rail - Hyderabad has got its own railhead and is connected with all the major cities within the state and outside.

Road - Regular bus service connects Hyderabad with all the important places within the country. For city transportation city buses, taxis, and auto rickshaws are also available.

Tirumala and Tirupati Places to Visit

Tirumala and Tirupati, though thoroughly highly sacred places of pilgrimage only, they also offer fullest proof of their pristine beauty of a tourist potentiality and the reason why they remain the abode of many a great saint from time immemorial. Tirumala especially is renowned in many Vedic scriptures to be the abode of a 1000 "Theerthas" or sacred mountain streams and rivulets in its entire green expanse. Many of these have been discovered but they are only about a dozen or so. Many of them are still esoteric basically because of the terrain of the jungle and the lack of people who know a good part of these forests and the lore thoroughly. Even the discovered ones have been able to be discovered because of their Vedic fame since the "beginning" like The Tumburu Theertham and The Akashganga, Paapavinashanam and Kumaaradhaara theertham. Tirumala hills are embedded with such exquisite places that only seen to be believed.

Golden temple A view of the Sri Lakshmi Narayani Temple near Thirupati

Located some 200 km form Bangalore and about half that distance from Chennai, Vellore is a lesser known place. For many its just a transit bus stop from Bangalore to Chennai. But with a masssive Rs. 300 crore Golden Temple in Sripuram, all that has changed. The temple build in true Deccan architecture style is a massive depiction of Indian craftsmanship. The temple welcomes you with the National Flag of India fluttering at the entrance, infusing an invariable sense of national pride. Enter the temple and you have to walk a Star shaped path to reach the main idol. The path has quotes from Vedas written all through, punctuated by some great sculptures, beautiful gardens, fountains and scenic hills in the backdrop. The star shape long path to reach the idol is strategically constructed. By the time you reach the main idol, even if you have read half of the quotes in the way, you are unknowingly closer to almighty and the darshan becomes more fulfilling and enriching experience.

Sri Kalahasti

Other Temple and Holy place of Tirumala and Tirupati Sri Kalahasti

Sri Kalahasti This famous Saivite temple in Kalahasti, 38 km from Tirupati, is one of the Panchabhoota Kshetras. Located on the banks of river Swarnamukhi, Sri Kalahasti Temple is one of the most ancient temples in South India. Lord Siva is worshipped here in the form of Vayu Linga (one of the elements air). The legend says that Sri (spider), Kala (cobra) and Hasti (elephant) worshipped Lord Siva here and attained Moksha. Hence this place is known as Srikalahasti. Kannappa Nayanar (a tribal hunter) attained salvation in this place by offering his eyes to this Lord. Kannappa Temple is on a hillock adjacent to the temple from where we can view the temple town of Sri Kalahasti.

Sri Gnana Prasoonambika is the consort of the Lord and abhishekams are also performed for her as for Sri Kalahasteeswara. Patala Ganapati is a small underground temple located in the same complex. Pilgrims should make it a point to visit this interesting place. One has to bow down carefully to worship this Ganapati 20 feet below on a very narrow staircase.
Sri Kalahasti Temple is also famous for performing Sarpadosha (RahuKetu) Nivaarana Pooja. The fee is Ps. 250/- inclusive of Pooja material. Many pilgrims perform this pooja here.Sarvadarshanam : 5.00 am to 9.30 pmRahu, Ketu Puja (Rs.250/-) : any timePacha Karpoora Abhishekam : 5.30 pm

TTD Gardens

Other Temple and Holy place of Tirumala and Tirupati TTD Gardens

TTD Gardens: The TTD Gardens - ornamental, landscape and flower gardens - occupy an area of 460 acres in Tirupati and Tirumala. The gardens were set up to beautify the area in and around Tirumala The Gardens Department of TTD meets the demand for flowers of all the temples in Tirumala. It supplies garlands for adorning the deities and for decorating the mandapam, pandals and vahanas on festive occasions.

Japali Hanuman Temple

Other Temple and Holy place of Tirumala and Tirupati Japali Hanuman Temple

Japali Hanuman Temple: The Hanuman temple at Japali, is one of the least known and most worthy places of visit in Tirumala. After a kilometre's trek into the woods, the darshan of lord Anjaneya is really a memorable experience. It is located 3 kms from Gogarbham dam.

Sri Bedi Anjaneyaswami Temple

Other Temple and Holy place of Tirumala and Tirupati The Great Geological Arch

Sri Bedi Anjaneyaswami Temple: Sri Anjaneyaswami temple is located opposite the Sri Varahaswami temple on the North Eastern banks of the Swami Pushkarini. It was constructed during the Mahant's period. The idol's hands are joined in supplication (in the Anjali pose).

The Great Geological Arch

Other Temple and Holy place of Tirumala and Tirupati The Great Geological Arch
The Great Geological Arch (Shila Thoranam) This is one of the three archives discovered in whole world. A very rare phenomenon of two different sets of rocks connected together in the form of a thin link was found. This formation is known to exist elsewhere only at the 4 fingers of Texas and somewhere in Australia. Pilgrims must make it a point to visit this wonder of the world during their Tirumala trip. No buses are available. Private vehicles are allowed. It is 2km from main temple

The Papa Vinashanam

Other Temple and Holy place of Tirumala and Tirupati The Papa Vinashanam
The Papa Vinashanam (cleanser of Sins) About 5 Kms north of the Tirumala temple is a deep bowl formed by the surrounding hills that created a reservoir ages ago and many a mountain stream emptied into it. This came to be known as the Papavinashanam (The Cleanser of sins). Its waters were initially used for worshipping purposes but abandoned later because of the distance from the temple. It is still used though, for special occasions. To conserve water forever increasing number of pilgrims and therefore, the temple township, a dam was constructed across but the pilgrims, thus preserving the tradition, provided a bypass for bathing. It is believed that the holy waters of this place dissolve the sins of the devotees. Hence this place is known as Papavinashanam. A dam constructed here regulates the water flow.

The Akashganga

Other Temple and Holy place of Tirumala and Tirupati The Akashganga
The Akashganga (Heavenly Ganges likened to The Milky Way OR heavenly river) waterfall is about 3 Kms north of the Tirumala temple. This is very famous for the prime reason is that its waters are used for The Lord's bath every day. This is a beautiful place where the mountain stream gushes out in a deep but very well paved and accessible ravine. Water is procured from this place for Abhishekam. In rainy season Akashganga's gushing waters provide a beautiful sight and a bath here at that time is really refreshing.

The Swami Pushkarini Temple

Other Temple and Holy place of Tirumala and Tirupati The Swami Pushkarini

The Swami Pushkarini (The Sacred Temple Water Tank) It is very usual and highly probable to find a water tank either just beside or nearby every Hindu temple constructed during the ancient and medieval times. The waters of the tank were strictly for temple purposes only - like for the God's "bath" that is a ritual/worship, cleaning and washing the temples insides and outsides. The water in the Swami Pushkarini is absolutely NOT stagnant OR infected. It has a state-of-the-art recycling facility and water is treated before it gets into and recycled continuously. A bath in the Swami Pushkarini is believed to clean pilgrims of their sins and bestow temporal prosperity. Pilgrims bath here before entering the main temple. A bath in the holy tank purifies one's body and soul.

Sri Venkateshwara Temple

Other Temple and Holy place of Tirumala and Tirupati Sri Venkateshwara Temple

The famous temple of Sri Venkateshwara is located on the seventh peak, Venkatachala (Venkatadri Hill) of the Tirupati Hill, and lies on the southern banks of Sri Swami Pushkarini. There are several exquisitely carved doorways, mandapams and shrines that you will come across inside the Sri Venkateshwara Temple complex. There is only one entrance in the east surmounted by a gopura, known as the Padikavali mahadwaram. Inside the Temple complex main places are Sampangi Pradakshinam, Krishna Devaraya Mandapam, Ranga nayaka Mandapam, Tirumala Raya Mandapam, Aaina Mahal, Dhwajasthambha Mandapam, Nadimi Padi Kavili, Vimana Pradakshinam,.....(contd) Sri Varadarajaswami Shrine Potu, The Main Shrine, Sankeertana Bhandara, Bangaru Bavi, Snapana Mandapam Ramar Meda, Shayana Mandapam, Garbha Gruha, Kalyana Mandapam Sri Ramanuja Shrine, Sri Narasimhaswami Shrine, Tirumamani Mandapam Bangaru Vakili, Mukkoti Pradakshinam, Sri Vishwaksena Temple, Sri Yoga Narasimhaswami Temple, Sri Garuda Temple.

Sri Varahaswami Temple

Other Temple and Holy place of Tirumala and Tirupati Sri Varahaswami Temple

The temple of Sri Varahaswami in Tirumala is to the north of the Sri Venkateshwara temple, on the banks of Swami Pushkarini. The presiding deity is Varaha Swami, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu in the form of a boar that was staying on the hills when The Lord descended unto earth. He had to take permission from Lord Varaha to stay here and grant HIM (Lord Varaha), the privilege of first view by the visiting pilgrims and first Naivedyam (sacred offering of food to Lord for consecration) in return. Thus it is imperative that pilgrims visit Sri Varaha Swami first and The Lord, only later. According to legend, Tirumala was originally the Adi Varahakshetra (place belonging to Sri Adi Varahaswami). Lord Sri Venkateshwara took up residence here, with the permission of Sri Varahaswami. According to Brahmapurana, Naivedyam (food offered to God) should first be offered to Sri Varahaswami. Pilgrims should visit Sri Varahaswami temple prior to Sri Venkateshwara temple.
